A little research.

It would help me out tremendously if everyone took just a minute to answer the following questions:

When you think of Coca Cola what comes to mind?

When you think of Apple Computers what comes to mind?

I am attempting to get a grasp on what theses brands mean to different people for my digital remix and video. Thanks to everyone in advance.

  1. For Coca Cola, I think classic, red, dependable. I think of small, hometown diners with Southern-type food and the truck with Santa Claus that shows up in Coke's Christmas commercials. It makes me think of the 1950s.

I've never owned an Apple Computer or used one much, so for me they represent otherness. Apple is like this illusive brand I never use, made for artsy types who want to be "different." They're very cutting edge, colorful, and trendy.

    Hope that helps somewhat.

  2. Coke. Fizzy. Unpleasant. (I really have never liked the taste of Coke). I love their polar bear commercials, though. Actually, they've had a lot of great commercials over the years. I just don't like to drink the stuff. Taste matters.

Apple. Hip. User-friendly. Right-brained. Yes, as Beth says, for artsy types. It's the designer computer. Even when I had to bow to the corporate PC world, I had a great respect and a bit of envy for the Mac users I'd occasionally come across. Last fall, I was in the Apple store at Southpark in Charlotte and it was absolutely packed. I said to the salesman, "I guess we can see why Microsoft just signed Jerry Seinfeld." I think that deal fell through, though, didn't it?
